The Youth Yoga School LLC trainings are broken down into modules. These modules are designed to offer you the most information and practice time available. We have gathered our 30+ years of experience, interviewed top professionals in the field of child development and created a curriculum that is packed with all the tools you could possibly need to equip you to teach children.
The Youth Yoga School LLC will continue to update our material as our combined yoga community builds research and gathers information. In addition, we want to offer you ongoing support with your teaching efforts. To help with this, we created a private online Youth Yoga School LLC forum that is included in our training price. This is to combat the feeling, “I do not have enough energy. I don’t know what to do next. I have this unique situation I could use help with.” Instead of claiming, teaching children’s yoga is not my cup of tea. Bring it to the forum, our online community will support and offer you some brilliant ideas. Not only will you receive up to date information, resources, curriculum, and training, you will meet other yoga teachers and child focused professionals from around the world. You can connect, brainstorm and support each other sharing the same vision…bringing yoga to our children and teens globally.
To Teach Children Yoga~You Need to Teach Real Kids!
Our program believes in the importance of practice to build competence and confidence. There is nothing like teaching actual children to help you understand developmental issues and what works. Each weekend, we will provide children in our workshop time that we will be able to interact with and practice teaching. Our program is set up with three opportunities to teach yoga to youth.
One, you will be teaching during workshop days, practicum teaching will be with community children.
Second, part of your home practice will be to teach with children you know.
The third opportunity for practicum is to provide service in the community. This comes in the form of outreach through our SEVA Service hours. (YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, The Dream Center, etc.)
Not only will this build in you competence and confidence, but it will also shape the lives of children. You ability to influence the world will start immediately!
Module 1: Fun-damentals of Youth Yoga
This weekend will focus on the basics of child development and how they apply in a yoga class. We will practice creating age appropriate yoga class plans. You will get to observe faculty teaching in action plus additional practicum experience. This is a required weekend for all teachers. Finally, you will begin to explore ethics and boundaries with children and parents. You won’t want to miss this!! Opening ceremony on Friday night. (Friday at 6 until Sunday at 4 pm)Module 2: Techniques and Training- Learning How to Play While You Practice
This module is especially good for non yoga teachers as we will focus on adapting traditional yoga poses and practices to kids. During every month/module we will have self-reflection and support regarding SEVA teaching, we will have practicum time with children, and we will gather/share teaching resources.Module 3: Aspire to Inspire -Connecting with Kids
Learn how to develop curriculum, manage the classroom, communicate with kids, and accommodate special needs. We will revisit child development concepts so we can truly to aspire to inspire the children we teach. This module is especially helpful for yoga teachers who have less experience teaching children.Module 4: ”The Hip Bone’s Connected to the Thigh Bone”
The good news is, we will not only be talking about the hip bone and the thigh bone. This weekend we’ll focus on the “whole child” including body, mind, emotion and spirit. Topics include anatomy, physiology, sequencing, safety issues, and review of applying the “whole child approach” to special needs youth. (ADHD and autism will be covered specifically)Module 5: Growing the Teacher Within
This weekend focuses on understanding the roots of yoga history and philosophy so we can grow into a mature practice for ourselves and the students we teach. This will include ethics and realizing your own philosophy of teaching. What is your vision? This weekend will help you clarify that.Note:
Each module is 16-17 hours (except for opening weekend, Fun-damentals of Youth Yoga, which begins on Friday evening at 6 pm) Each module will include a practicum of teaching (see SEVA Service below)
